Naphthalene Smell

Naphthalene is a coming ingredient present in most commercial snake repellents, therefore if you want an effective and yet economical method in repelling snakes apart from commercial products, naphthalene is the best choice. The smell of naphthalene irritates snakes without killing them. To use this method, simply place mothballs in holes, crevices, cracks or any other area around your property where you suspect snakes usually visits. However, you need to apply safety precautions because mothballs can be toxic to children and pets if they ingest it.

Clove and Cinnamon Oil

Using clove and cinnamon oil is one of the effective methods in repelling snakes from the home or garden; this is because they hate the smell coming from it. To use this method effectively, simply mix clove and cinnamon oil together, pour it into a spray bottle, and spray it directly on snakes to achieve best results. It is important to adhere to safety precautions because snakes may run in the opposite direction of the spray. This mixture can also be used in a diffuser indoors as fumigant.

Ammonia Smell

Snakes really detest the odor coming out from ammonia, so this makes it an effective method in repelling snakes. To use this method, just get an ammonia solution, and then spray the ammonia around the suspected snake areas. Another option is to soak a rag in ammonia and place it in an unsealed bag near snakes suspected area.

Garlic and Onion Smell

Just like many other creatures, snakes detest the smell of garlic and onion, therefore this make it an effective method to repel snakes from the hole or garden. To use this method, simply make a spray by chopping garlic cloves and onions to any oil. Soak the garlic and onion in the oil for a few weeks then strain it. Transfer the oil to a spray bottle and spray it around the areas where you suspect snakes may hide in.
