Why is a woodpecker pecking on my house?


Woodpecker love to make holes in tree and woods, they can also make your morning sleepless due to their drumming habit. They use their sharp peaks to make hole in the wood or tree, and later by use of the tongue, they search for insects. They use drumming to mark their territory and formatting too. In the below, we are sharing the reason why they get into your house and start pecking.

Availability of food

One of the major reasons for their entry within your home is the availability of food. If you saw those repeatedly making holes into the trees or wood, it means that they are getting enough food from there. This also points out that your house is a secure place for many insects like bees; ants etc. are providing a source of food to the woodpecker. If you want to get rid of them, then it is important to remove woodpecker before removing food.

Check out your attic and find the dead insects in the corners. Remove those insects and try to find out the nest of bees or ants which place they are using and providing a chance to woodpecker for pecking. If you see various insects, it means that can attract a lot of pest like a rat, mice, etc. take strict action to get rid of these otherwise they all are going to make you sick and sleepless.



Place a suet woodpecker feeder outside the house.

If you have tried the above technique and it did not work well, then try this one. By placing a suet feeder outside the house means you are proving them a place to rest and to eat. When they get the food in a fixed place, they will never think of disturbing you. Start moving this suet feeder away from your house when they got familiar with it. By doing this, you can get rid of them.

Use of repellent to deter woodpecker

According to science, many people have tried many remedies, or repellent all got failed in front of a woodpecker. The only way to that can prevent them from pecking in your home is to stop their entry within the house. You can do this with the help of netting. Place the net all over the area that they can use to enter your house. This net will prevent them from getting in.

Attach reflective tape or object near the damage

If they have damaged your property, we recommend you fill them quickly; otherwise, they may start using those holes as a living place. You can use shiny tape to fill those gaps, or you can also use the same color tape that helps to hide those damages.

The other technique that can help you to prevent their pecking is the use of shiny objects like CDs, a mirror as they cause reflection, which is used to scare them. Although this is not a permanent solution, by doing so, you can get rid of them on a temporary basis.
